Well, Christmas is ruined, folks. All those parents who bought their household a Call of Duty game to share are set to be fleeced this holiday season or forced to opt for a sack of coal over the latest title.

For years, Call of Duty has been shared between brothers, sisters, friends, and fathers and daughters underneath the Christmas tree. But not any more, as game-sharing appears to have been blocked this year.

Modern Warfare 3's inclusion in Call of Duty HQ looks to have put a stop to game-sharing.

MW3 fans claim game sharing is blocked by new DLC methods

Game-sharing is a method which has saved households a fortune on games over the years, allowing the installation of a title to be replicated on a second device; in an industry where games are edging towards the $100 mark, this has been quite the popular feature.

However, Call of Duty has now moved all of its titles under the same roof (CoD HQ), effectively making each yearly game a DLC.

Now, following the Modern Warfare 3 Early Access pre-load, players are reporting that this new DLC method means that you can no longer game share the annual instalments.

Taking to Twitter, popular Call of Duty account CharlieIntel reported "As of now, [MW3 game sharing] does not work".

Will game-sharing get fixed for Modern Warfare 3?

An abundance of players have taken to social media to express their frustration at this, but there might be a silver lining.

It has been pointed out that Diablo also had this issue with game sharing prior to its full release, and the issue was fixed after the Early Access expired and the full game launched.

Still, combined with the fact that there will be no PlayStation 5 Platinum Trophy for Modern Warfare 3 as a DLC cannot have its own list, this could be a sign of the times.
