Given that Rust and Shipment are back in the Call of Duty franchise together again, the true essence of the maps are now beginning to be harnessed.

For the first time in years, the small maps are getting their time in the limelight, and having once been the only places to ever truly settle a dispute, their true purpose is returning.

The 1v1 showdowns are finally returning to CoD to dance with its iconic maps, as Modern Warfare 3 has seen a Cagematch playlist go live.

1v1 Cagematches return to Call of Duty

Back in the day, when it was gun versus gun, the only way to settle who the best player was between two smack talkers was to jump on Rust or Shipment and put your money where your mouth is.

Now, this essence is being relived, as 1v1 Shipment has been activated in Modern Warfare 3, where players can take their own loadouts to the gunfight and duke it out in a death match. The first to 20 kills in the winner.

So far, it's only Shipment in the playlist, and the game mode is a direct result of the previous AMA with Sledgehammer Games, where players' voices were heard. Maybe if we shout loud enough, Rust might get a similar treatment in the future too.

Modern Warfare 3 fans excited over return of Cagematches

Nowadays, to be fair, the ultimate 1v1 contest is basically the Gulag, but with your respawns activated to cancel out any flukes, the Cagematch is beginning to whet the appetite of Modern Warfare 3 players.

"Yoooo best news in a minute, I love a good cage match playlist," said one fan on a Reddit post.

Another added, "I'm looking forward to it too, even though I know I'll probably get wrecked, lol."

The Cagematch playlist is now live, so make sure to get your PG teabags at the ready next time you load into Modern Warfare 3.
