Metas are an ever-changing landscape in shooters, especially in Call of Duty, as devs scramble to tweak weapon balancing problems rocked by hyper-specific loadouts and the fixes for those loadouts.
It's agonising for players trying to keep up with the toughest weapons across Modern Warfare 3 and Warzone. It seemsĀ as though there's a whole new loadout to prioritise every week.
It doesn't end with the weapons, as killstreaks and perks are getting their nerfs and tweaks, too. Now, players think that one killstreak has been quietly cranked while nobody was looking.
Fans think MW3 has buffed the Swarm
YouTuber TheXclusiveAce has done extensive research and concluded that one of MW3's most overlooked killstreaks has been buffed without players noticing. If players deem an item too weak to bother with, they'll simply forget about it. Luckily for Sledgehammer Games, this resulted in a chance to crank the Swarm killstreak.
TheXclusiveAce has revealed that Swarm has grown more powerful without any official patch notes, showcased by a match recorded in January. A player running at 4.9 meters per second could easily outrun Swarm without being killed.
Now, the same killstreak takes out a player sprinting away at 5.9 meters per second. Something has certainly changed with the Swarm killstreak, and it could lead to the item crawling further up the meta than ever before.
MW3 needs more exciting killstreaks
This is great news for the game, as the Swarm killstreak has been present in the franchise since 2012 and yet has fallen to the wayside. CoD needs more to offer players other than just the optimised tools to bag a win, simply letting players have a little more fun and mix it up a little.
The current stress over Call of Duty metas only leads to a game that gets sweatier by the minute, so an unexpected killstreak entering the arena to challenge that is refreshing. It's probably a good thing that the potential Swarm buff wasn't publicised, otherwise it'd be just another cardboard cutout killstreak that's designed to dominate
We've needed some fun extras to the sometimes stale MW3, and though it might be a shock that the new competitor is from 2012, we'd certainly be glad to see it in more games.
