With Modern Warfare 3 set to release in November 2023, special editions of the game are beginning to roll out as preorders.

The special edition which has captured the most attention online is the Walmart-exclusive Limited Collector's Box, though it isn’t necessarily getting positive press.

Walmart has released an exclusive Modern Warfare 3 collectors edition

Several special editions of Modern Warfare 3 are available to preorder, including the Vault Edition ($99.99) and Console Cross-Gen and PC Digital Editions ($69.99).

The Walmart-exclusive Limited Collector's Box is another edition that keen players can get their hands on, however, it does come with a few caveats.

The first major sticking point for many Modern Warfare fans is the high price tag, which is set at $149.

For the price, players receive:

  • Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III game
  • Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III Collector Box
  • Game Case with disc
  • Bronze-Washed Resin Wall Plaque Featuring Ghost
  • Zombie Night Vision Metallic Poster
  • Set of Eight Enamel Collector Pins
  • Set of Four Special Edition Lithographs
  • Exclusive Collectible Retail Box Packaging

There is a second issue with the edition that has some fans wondering whether it is worth it. The copy of the game will not be packed in the box when it ships, meaning that players will not receive the game and box as one package.

Modern Warfare fans are not impressed by the Walmart edition

Modern Warfare 3 fans are not impressed with the cost of the box, the contents, or the fact that the collector's edition box itself will not have the game inside it.

One Twitter user wrote: "This looks like a loot box subscription not a collectors edition" in reference to the mismatch of items which come with the edition.

In a similar vein, another commenter said: "They just added a bunch of stuff from Aliexpress and called it a collectors edition."

Not everyone is upset about the box, however, with some fans excited about the inclusion of Zombie merchandise.

One Twitter user said: "The OG zombie perks and the raygun? Okay, now I am excited!"

While it is a more expensive bundle, it will likely appeal to collectors of Call of Duty merchandise who are looking to get more than just game access from their preorder. Though it isn't for everyone, the Walmart collectors edition will probably find its audience sooner rather than later.
