The Call of Duty franchise does dance along the lines of mature ratings, and Modern Warfare 3 is to be the exact same.
From No Russian massacres and terrorist attacks on children in the campaigns to multiplayer's gory finishing moves and dismemberment tracer packs, there's enough content to fill players' nightmares.
So it begs the question, why have the developers removed a 12-year-old NSFW Easter egg in Modern Warfare 3?
Call of Duty removes NSFW doll from MW3 map
You older folk might remember the Modern Warfare 2 map pool in its early glory, and Favela was atop the list of truly great maps.
The quality of the map might not have quite translated to the newly spruced-up, but most of its nooks and crannies are all intact — all bar one.
Fans have noticed that there is a dummy in the bath of one of Favela's buildings. However, back in 2009 when this map first aired, the bath was populated by an inflatable sex doll.
"My disappointment is immeasurable and my day is ruined, completely unplayable," said one fan on Reddit, as many others voiced their displeasure at the censorship over this cheeky nuance.
"Pre-ordered cancelled," added another, "This s**t is 1984," they added, gesturing to the dystopian control novel by George Orwell.
Why has Call of Duty removed its NSFW Easter egg?
Call of Duty's relationship with sex is complicated. Although Modern Warfare 2 had Amsterdam's Red Light district, sex has never been on display in this title, aside from the BM teabagging.
The Amsterdam-based mission contains "brief visual and textual sexual references and mild examples of sexualised imagery in a sequence set in a red-light district," but no sexual activity has ever been displayed in the 18+ game.
World War II also got into a spot of bother after the campaign depicted a woman being dragged off by a soldier before the zipping of pants and the scream, "Ah! Get away from me!" could be heard. This was later changed as some classification boards complained about the implied "threat of sexual violence".
It's quite evident that, despite the Modern Warfare 2 doll back in 2011, sex is being kept at arm's length, and they'll stick to blood and gore instead.
