Back in the day, you had your whole arsenal set back to the bare minimum with each Prestige in multiplayer. Imagine the horror if that happened nowadays huh?

Nowadays, you only have to get to level 55 to have your full repertoire of guns at your disposal for the rest of the game's lifetime, and your grind for the mastery camos goes on uninterrupted.

Not anymore though, as Modern Warfare 3 brings out Armory Unlock Challenges, even though confused fans have put them under immediate criticism.

Modern Warfare 3 introduces Armory Unlock Challenges to help progression

Ever get to a stage in the new Call of Duty era where you simply cannot be bothered to graft through the levels to unlock a gun or attachment? Well, same. But now you don't need to.

Modern Warfare 3 has introduced Armory Unlock Challenges which allow you to get guns or attachments early, before the level they are supposed to be available at.

The system requires a player to get to Level 25 and you can then begin completing Daily Challenges to accrue Unlock Tokens, similar to the old Prestige Tokens.

Once you have enough, you can head to the Armory Unlock section and have your full pick of guns or attachments to permanently unlock.

This is best used if you're only Level 25 and cannot wait to get your hands on the ACR at Level 55, or you're a sniper main and your perfect thermal sight is achieved at Weapon Level 28 and you've only just started using it.

Confused Modern Warfare 3 fans hate the new Armory Unlock Challenges

In what appears to be quite a nifty new feature, letting you skip some of the grind to get exactly what you need, fans have been quite vocal on social media, expressing displeasure.

"Now you gotta work for stuff that should be included on launch day?" quizzed one fan who didn't grasp the concept.

"Wait we need to do challenges to unlock basic shit now," said another fan, while a third added, "Nope. That’s dumb! Locking items behind a level-up system was fine, locking items behind a challenge is dumb."

In essence, all these challenges provide is an opportunity to unlock things early, features that you have to unlock anyway and would need to put in some serious hours for. This is just a shortcut.

The new feature will be available from day one in Modern Warfare 3 and adds to the now-simplified Gunsmith.
