Modern Warfare 3 has a worrying amount of studios working on CoD 2023

Fans have pointed out that the Steam page for Modern Warfare 3 is packing a LOT of studios - and that hasn't worked well for Call of Duty in the past.

Finally, we know Modern Warfare 3 is officially on the way. No, not 2011's Modern Warfare 3. There's a difference, okay? Once upon a time, players would sniff at the idea of a game that serves as a sequel to a sequel of a reboot a year after the first reboot sequel.

Rather than succumbing to the headache of figuring out where the game stands in the wider world of Call of Duty, fans are game as ever. After all, 2022's Modern Warfare 2 was a return to form for many, and more of what it offered is all that anyone interested in the CoDverse is looking for.

But there's still a chance that the new game will fall for the mistakes of the past. In a case of too many cooks spoiling the broth, there are worries Modern Warfare 3 has too many studios working on it.

Modern Warfare 3 is inundated with studios

Oh dear. As though Call of Duty hasn't learned from the last time this happened, it seems that the franchise has bundled a tonne of development teams onto one game. Modern Warfare 3's team is looking pretty busy, but that might not be a good thing.

The Steam page for the game has revealed that Modern Warfare 3 won't just be an Infinity Ward affair, as it's joined by Sledgehammer Games, Treyarch, Beenox, Raven Software, High Moon Studios, and Demonware as contributors.

On the surface, it could be presumed that it's good that so many developers are focussing on making the game great, but as is the case with Call of Duty a little too often, we've seen it descend into a mismatch of ideas and no one really taking the blame.

Call of Duty has used too many devs before

The most recent example of such messy development planning is Vanguard, the World War II shooter that Call of Duty launched feeling incredibly half-baked and poorly executed. The 2021 game failed to hold player interest for long, with complaints it was another generic CoD set during this period of history.

This could be a case of history repeating itself, as back when the original Modern Warfare 3 was being developed, Infinity Ward found itself in a legal drama and had to deploy the help of Sledgehammer. Many think Modern Warfare 3 getting so much help is a misinformed decision - and some think it's not likely to end well. Brace for impact.
