Whether you love it or loathe it, Modern Warfare 3's live-service model has been praised as one of the best in Call of Duty history by plenty. With a multiplayer-heavy seasonal roadmap adding an abundance of great original maps and modes, it's been a certified hit.

But while the core 6v6 experience has been refined from a lump of coal to a smooth diamond, it has come at the expense of two popular game modes.

Much like the treatment given to Zombies, both War and Gunfight have been left out in the cold, and players hope to get some more support in the final months.

War and Gunfight have been left to rot in Modern Warfare 3

In a side-by-side comparison to last year's Modern Warfare 2, Call of Duty fans have been praising MW3 for its constant support of 6v6 multiplayer. There have been 16 new core maps in the span of four seasons, compared to MW2 having 11, with only one being a true original and not a remaster or taken from Campaign/Warzone).

But, there's also a big contrast in how the two titles handled their bigger and smaller lobbies. Modern Warfare 3 has only added one War map and one Gunfight map in the post-launch service. Again, compared to last year, MW2 had six times the number of new Battle (compared to War) and Gunfight maps.

"I’m just sad they are letting my boy war die," one Redditor said. "I should have known it was a marketing ploy, not an actual part of the game the devs care about."

"I do hate the fact they’ve basically abandoned war mode. It’s so fun and they were so dedicated to it during WWII post-launch," said another.

War was brought back to the series for the first time since WWII and became an instant hit, offering a fun way to grind camos while still being able to play for the win.

Gunfight, in particular, has a lot of potential that often gets overlooked. When it was first championed in MW2019, Gunfight's Gulag-replicating experience morphed into Tournaments, which were incredibly popular but never given a sustained chance to thrive.

For Gunfight, fans are just hoping to see some older maps be ported over, akin to how some MW2 multiplayer maps appear in certain playlists.

"I wish they would add the mw2 gunfight maps into mw3; I'm getting tired of playing the same goddamn maps all the time like I miss Penthouse and Canal," a third commented.

There are two seasons left, meaning we might get some love towards these modes in the coming months, but it might be too little too late as a Black Ops 6 Beta and launch await.
