Modern Warfare 3 Zombies is a completely unique experience. The open-world looter and exfiltration style has never been tried before, as it relies on online play.

Players who fancy slaughtering thousands of reanimated corpses have already got more than what they have bargained from in the mode, but that doesn't mean that everything is all sunshine, rainbows, and death.

With the DMZ-Outbreak crossover now preparing to eat you alive, it looks like the developers have already taken a bite out of your arm and have chomped away at the couch co-op experience.

The Zombies legacy in Call of Duty stems from couch play, where siblings or friends would split-screen in Nacht Der Untoten and fight over who can wield the Ray Gun and who gets stuck with the LMG, pinned down on the top floor.

But you can say goodbye to that.

Modern Warfare 3 is ridding the series of co-op and offline Zombies, as this year's installation only appears to be supporting online multiplayer.

As per the pre-load for Modern Warfare 3 via CoD HQ, Zombies will not appear as an option to play if you're offline.

Modern Warfare 3 fans are not happy with the removal of offline Zombies

Of course, many of the modern-day Zombies fanatics will have means to play the game mode online with friends around the globe, but as we get older, maybe kids of the new generation would appreciate some good old classic undead shooting without being forced into wasting their pocket money on Xbox Live.

Following the news that there will be no Local Zombies, a Twitter poll with nearly 4,000 votes has weighed 88% towards the side that is annoyed by the removal.

More Zombies lovers chimed in with opinions, criticising this decision.

"Payday 3 all over again. A great game to play single-player ruined because of 'live updates'," one fan said.

Another fan added, "Massive bummer. I at LEAST hope 2024 zombies will have it. I can deal with this for a year because...It's different, but I want 2024 to return to the normal stuff with offline/solo play available."

Gone are the days of cracking open a six-pack of Lucozade, sharing a pizza, dimming the lights, and splitting your screen for endless hours of Zombies training.
