Niantic might be best known for Pokemon Go, but Monster Hunter Now has had an impressive launch, too. Capcom's timeless formula of hunting monsters and turning them into weapons with which to hunt bigger monsters is just as captivating for mobile players, and the game racked up 15 million downloads in 6 months.
If you live in a rural area, though, there's an argument you're not quite getting the same experience as someone based in, say, the middle of London - where POIs and monster spawns are more regular. Thankfully, Niantic has a plan for this.
Monster Hunter Now's Dimensional Links explained
With monsters being dragged into our dimension, Niantic explained that some will get stuck between two planes.
An additional icon will denote these creatures, and before you start a hunt, you'll be able to play with hunters further away that have also triggered the battle.
Once matchmade, you'll be able to jump in, meaning I might finally have a chance to beat some of the bigger monsters that my more rural location would have otherwise made difficult.
There's no cooldown, so you can hunt Dimensional Link monsters to your heart's content, and you can also select a "Join Hunt" option if there's a battle nearby.
Monsters and Beasts
Alongside Dimensional Links, Monster Hunter Now will partner with Jimmy "MrBeast" Donaldson, with the YouTube star helping to build a custom questline in the game.
Players can earn a new MrBeast Sword and Shield weapon, as well as a variety of cosmetics, including layered equipment and face paint, as well as some rare monster materials for crafting.
The free event will debut on July 27 and run until September 2, so there's plenty of time to get in some exploration. “Monster Hunter Now is super fun and also encourages people to go outside, explore, and get active," said MrBeast in a press release.
"Working with Niantic on my very own Monster Hunter Now quest line has been fantastic. I love that they partner with creators and trust them to know how to reach their audience."
"We’re thrilled to collaborate with Jimmy and the MrBeast team to bring a unique quest line and MrBeast content to Monster Hunter Now. We’re constantly looking to bring exciting and fresh content to the game, and this collaboration is something that appeals both to veteran players and new players alike," said Archit Bhargava, Senior Director of Product Marketing at Niantic in a press release.
"With more than 15 million downloads globally, we know our community is enjoying hunting monsters on the go. Now it will be even easier to get outside and hunt together with players from around the world."
