It's certainly not a secret that Modern Warfare 3 is playing on the nostalgia of Call of Duty fans and a lot of the main features in Sledgehammer's new game have been recycled from previous titles.

For some, this is lazy and unexciting, but for others, it's a chance revisit iconic maps in a remastered form and return to what many deem as the 'Golden Age' of CoD.

Well, on top of getting the chance to head back to MW2 (2009), MW2 (2022) is also making an appearance despite being at the end of its life cycle.

According to the devs, a set of fan-favourite MW2 (2022) maps will be available in their own playlist in MW3, which has caused a split in the community.

MW2 maps are coming to MW3 in their own playlist

As reported by ModernWarzone, a set of fan-favourite MW2 (2022) maps will feature in its own playlist in Modern Warfare 3 multiplayer.

This will begin with four locations including Farm 18, Mercado, Shoothouse, and one more that isn't mentioned in the blog.

It's worth noting that this is only the "initial selection," so expect more MW2 (2022) maps to be added to the playlist as the seasons progress.

Finally, these maps will be "graphically identical to how they appeared in MW2," so they're effectively direct ports. However, they will feature the new movement and gunplay coming in MW3.

CoD fans slam "trash" MW2 maps & want devs to be more "creative"

The news that MW2 (2022) will be seeping into MW3 has divided the community, with some slamming the decision as "trash" and others arguing additional content is always positive.

"Trash, nobody wants that, be creative and create something new," argued one user, with another countering "Why would you complain about additional content that isn’t taking anything away from the development of the game?".

Having the MW2 (2022) maps in its own playlist means this feature is optional, which is great for anyone who wants to leave those locations in the past.

However, for some fans, it's a sign that the devs are lacking creativity and once again pulling from the past to fill content gaps in what should be a completely new package.
