A new contender has entered the Mortal Kombat arena. Well, actually, a whole host of newcomers are coming to NetherRealm's brutal brawler, with the Khaos Reigns expansion adding a slew of characters to Mortal Kombat 1

The Mortal Kombat series has made a name for itself with guest fighters ever since 2011's Mortal Kombat 9 introduced Freddy Krueger and Kratos. Mortal Kombat 1 has been no exception, already adding Omni-Man, Peacemaker, and Homelander to the roster.

Mortal Kombat's Kgaos Reigns expansion adds new characters

It was a busy San Diego Comic-Con, with NetherRealm revealing its new lineup of Mortal Kombat 1 characters. The latest post-launch dump adds Scream's Ghostface, Terminator 2: Judgement Day's T-1000 that was played by the iconic Robert Patrick, and Arnold Schwarzenegger's Conan the Barbarian.

Alongside Noob Saibot, Cyrax, and a Sektor, the above arrive as part of the Khaos Reigns story expansion. These six fighters are jumping into action at some point after September 24, coming to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and PC (via Steam and the Epic Games Store).

Although Kaiji Tang voices Noob Saibot and has a new look, the biggest changes come to Sektor and Cyrax, who have been gender-flipped and are now voiced by Erika Ishii and Enuka Okuma. Ishii has also explained how Sektor is a human this time around instead of their usual robot persona.

Warner Bros. Interactive has called Khaos Reigns a new cinematic narrative, kickstarted when a new threat arrives from an alternate timeline - led by Titan Havik. These new characters have "unique backstories as part of the reimagined Mortal Kombat 1 Universe."

As we previously had Arnie's take on the Terminator for Mortal Kombat 11, it's over to T2's villain this time around. Patrick himself has lent his voice work and likeness to Khaos Reigns. While Ghostface actor Roger L. Jackson's vocals can be found in MK1, Schwarzenegger isn't voicing Conan. Thankfully, the former Governor of California still gets his time to shine with his appearance as Conan.

It's also disappointing that these guest fighters were revealed ahead of time, with a major MK1 datamine spoiling the surprise in June. Much like Homelander and co., we knew that Ghostface and the others were coming to NetherRealm's fighter but were waiting on the studio's official nod.

While we know Cyrax, Noob Saibot, and Sektor are coming on September 24, there's no release date for our celebrity cameos. Still, with Ghostface ready to slice and dice, we're excited to see what bloody finishers the Scream favourite has up their sleeve.
