We're on our final stretch of action in the Modern Warfare 2 era, as the third instalment of the series looms ever nearer.

But with Season 4 being the shortest split ever, you would expect that the action should be still coming pretty thick and fast.

However, this doesn't seem to be the case, as aside from a superhero takeover courtesy of The Boys, there's only one addition for the multiplayer side of things, and fans already hate it.

Modern Warfare 2 adds Vondel Watrerfront 6v6 map

Following on from the Kunstenaar District cut-up of the Warzone map Vondel, another multiplayer core map is being derived from its larger resurgence battlefield, as Season 4 Reloaded will introduce Vondel Waterfront as a 6v6 multiplayer map.

The map features four main buildings to serve as cover as operators will be looking for constant engagements, while a decking area around the docks will be a haven for assault rifle players.

Akin to Zarqwa Hydroelectric though, the map also features a range of underwater tunnels, and it's this that has riled Modern Warfare 2 fans.

Modern Warfare 2 fans hate the water-based Vondel multiplayer map

With an obsession with water-based fighting, despite the fans' voiced grievances, the developers chose to use the wet tunnels again, leaving players vexed.

"A map with more water routes? Just what we wanted," jibed one sarcastic fan on Twitter. "Nobody likes the water mechanics, get them the hell out of the game!" added another.

"Someone somewhere is really proud of the swimming mechanic," another fan joked.

Others also took issue with the map being a cut-up of Warzone again - albeit with some significant changes - claiming that it is "low effort."

Vondel Waterfront will be live in Modern Warfare 2 on July 12 when Season 4 reloaded kicks off.
