When it comes to causing a stir in the Modern Warfare 2 community, nothing comes close to the topic of skins. Whether it's humanoid rat Operators, giant cats, or even monkeys, new cosmetics in Call of Duty never fail to cause a debate.

Well, the announcement of the Season 6 BlackCell offering is no different after players noticed the devs are introducing Smoke Grenade skins. For a lot of fans, this is a "shameless" step too far and an "embarrassing" addition that will just dilute the Battle Pass.

CoD players slam "extremely lame" Smoke Grenade skins

As showcased by CharlieINTEL on Twitter, the Season 6 BlackCell package comes with a black and gold Smoke Grenade skin.

This has not gone down well with the community, who believe the cosmetic is "extremely lame" and proof CoD is "running out of ideas."

"Bro this game is becoming more like cod mobile and not in a good way," said one user, with another arguing, "The worst part is that people STILL keep buying these things.... the games will never be as good as they once were."

It's clear the playerbase is tired of Activision attempting to monetise every aspect of the game, with some joking that before long, you'll be able to pay for your throwables to travel further. While we've seen pay-to-win DMZ boosts attached to skins, the devs haven't included anything in the standard BR mode just yet.

CoD fans unhappy Battle Pass is getting diluted with "useless" items

Warzone 2 skin

One of the primary concerns with Activision adding new skins for different items in CoD is the way it may dilute the Battle Pass and its rewards.

"Yeah, I'm done buying cod Battle Passes, they fill them with so many random filler items that no one cares for or even sees, I'd rather spend 20 dollars on a pack I'll actually use."

More rewards and cosmetics are not necessarily a good thing if players see them as pointless. It'll be interesting to see whether Activision continues to monetise more and more features as we head into Modern Warfare 3.

Based on the franchise's track record, this seems extremely likely. For some fans, the main series is becoming a little too much like CoD Mobile.
