The branches of Call of Duty have been intertwining for the last few years, as reboots of the franchise's main series have begun to spin the lore into uncontrollable directions.

Whether it's campaigns, Warzone, Zombies, or just multiplayer madness, the characters have started appearing where they shouldn't be, and it's getting out of hand.

Now, more Black Ops antics are popping up in the Modern Warfare series, and this new Easter egg might just be the start of yet another big crossover.

Nova 6 Easter eggs found in Modern Warfare 2

Modern Warfare 2 fans have found some Nova 6 Easter eggs in both multiplayer and DMZ, where the notorious Black Ops killing agent has been spotted.

They're now actual Easter eggs, as nobody would want toxic gas-filled surprises in the chocolate - save that for Halloween and Trick or Trick - but Nova 6 gas has actually been found in Modern Warfare 2.

Barrels of the toxic gas have been spotted in the new multiplayer map Black Gold and the Raid mission Atomgrad: Episode 2, which signifies that the two franchises are more connected than we first thought.

Players have also found Perseus' insignia all around Atomgrad, but it's not clear what the Black Ops antagonist is up to.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 3

The gas, notoriously used to poison players in Black Ops 1 and again in Cold War, is also the same agent that infects the crawlers in Kino Der Toten, all of which has been restricted to Treyarch's Black Ops series so far.

However, this year, it has infiltrated into Modern Warfare - signifying a crossover may be on the cards. How this could happen is yet to be seen. Maybe, this means that the next instalment of Call of Duty (2023) will have ties to both games as a medley of sorts.

Or, maybe it's a way of introducing Zombies into the Modern Warfare world. Or, possibly, it's as simple as a multiplayer mashup where Black Ops operators are released into the game, akin to Price joining Cold War and Woods popping up in Warzone.

The latter could open up some form of event crossover like Vanguard and Warzone had, where four notorious baddies blew up Caldera. This time, it could be Al Mazrah that faces that at the hands of chemical gasses. It's no doubt that we'll soon have Richtofen and Price sharing a cigar over a pint of Stamin-Up.
