Modern Warfare 3 has continued a number of patterns that are synonymous with the Call of Duty series this year.

The old habits of recycling content of years gone by have been the first routine to be continued, with MW2 2009 being the brain behind the MW3 body. The second obsession was the annual 420 celebrations, which brought forth Cheech and Chong, Snoop Dogg (again), and an upcoming "G3T HIGH" game mode.

But these two patterns have now combined to bring us a weed-themed Vanguard crossover, as a mary-jane farm Growhouse is set to land in Modern Warfare 3 as a direct remaster of Sphere.

Modern Warfare 3 adds Growhouse for 420 celebrations, but it's too familiar...

Growhouse has now been added to Modern Warfare 3 as a Season 3 map to celebrate the arrival of the doub-chonging duo and Snoop, as 420 continues to rage on in the game ahead of a "Blaze Up" special event.

But fans have noticed that the new weed farm is actually Sphere from Vanguard in a remastered state.

Sphere was originally a seasonally-added map in Vanguard and came with a western and cowboy palette, where gunslingers would try and take over the overhead barn areas before moving into an underground facility.

This sparked the second-ever remastered content from Vanguard too, after Das Haus, although fans aren't convinced that this was the way to go.

Vanguard's first remastered content isn't going down too well in MW3

For all of Vanguard's faults at release, the game had a number of good and fun maps for multiplayer which would still suit the series in this modern age, and players are now baffled as to why the first content drop from the title is this seasonal map which scarcely got played.

Popular leaker "TheGhostOfHope" kicked off a wave of criticism, saying, "Not trying to hate too hard cause clearly a dev at SHG loved this map and wanted to remaster it cause barely anybody played it but there were so many better options to pick from for Vanguard."

Others pointed out that Mayhem would have suited instead, given the King Kong and Godzilla skins returning, while Hope listed "Tuscan, Bocage, Gavutu, and Eagle’s Nest" would have all made much better choices.

There is still a lot of time for Sledgehammer to dip back into their archives for Vanguard content, but for now, Sphere's ghost will be getting smoked in Growhouse, and we'll have to deal with the hallucinic memories of the prime Vanguard days.
