It's no secret that Call of Duty's biggest money-maker is the skins and cosmetics they release into the store on a regular basis.
Massive collaborations involving celebrities, The Boys, The Walking Dead, Tomb Raider, and more, never fail to capture the attention of the community.
Not everyone agrees with Activsion's business model though, with some claiming they've already purchased Modern Warfare 3 as a package and the high skin prices are "terrible value."
For them, the "overpriced" Battle Passes as well as cosmetics are nothing short of greedy and more should be unlockable free of charge.
CoD fans flame "insane" bundle & Battle Pass prices
Taking to the ModernWarfareIII subreddit, user Amebs32 decided to voice their frustration over the price of cosmetics in MW3, arguing it shouldn't be possible for players to spend "1000 dollars" on top of the base game price in one CoD game's cycle.
Slamming the prices as "insane," they're not the only ones in the community who think the devs have gone a little too far with the store price.
"With how heavy the micro-transaction monetization of this game has become, it’s long overdue that multiplayer goes F2P," said one user, with another arguing "How can people defend this s**t? A camo pack used to be $2-3 in BO2, I feel like the only people defending this garbage are teenagers who have no concept of economics."
For some it's ridiculous how you can "buy BlackCell every season" and it "easily be an additional $180 USD on top of what you paid for the game." However, with so many players feeding into the model and handing over cash, it's unlikely Activision has any motivation to change.
MW3 players encourage the community to "vote with your wallet"
Not everyone is angry at the devs though, with some players taking aim at fellow fans for feeding into the problem.
In their opinion, the community should "vote with their wallet" and the problem is caused by the "stupid" people who "keep buying it despite it being a terrible value."
"Prices are ridiculous, but nothing is game-changing or affects gameplay, so you don't have to buy anything," said one user, with another claiming, "You have to buy exactly 0 bundles to enjoy the full experience of the game."
Unfortunately for those who hate the prices, the collabs and wacky designs keep drawing in countless sales. Until the hype for cosmetics dies down, this will be the future of Call of Duty.
