Killstreaks are unbelievably impactful in Modern Warfare 3 multiplayer, but they're certainly not easy to earn with the slower TTK implemented this year.
When you can rack up countless kills in a row, very few rewards can outmatch the two new Killstreaks that were added in Season 1. These are the destructive Swarm that sends out countless bomb drones and, of course, the EMP - which is causing absolute chaos in Hardcore modes.
Designed to confuse and disrupt enemy radars, it's become a little too effective in Hardcore, with teammates killing each other on repeat when an EMP is activated.
MW3 EMP is causing havoc in Hardcore modes
You'd be forgiven for thinking that the EMP is a relatively underwhelming Killstreak in standard multiplayer, but it's a different beast in Hardcore.
Once activated, the streak takes away "all player names from your HUD," meaning there's no way to identify friends from foes. In Hardcore, you can shoot your teammates, so this results in absolute chaos, with allies shooting each other by mistake, thinking they're killing enemies.
This recently happened to teallen96, who shared their experience on the ModernWarfareIII subreddit, revealing that their match became a "game of roulette as to whether the person you shoot at is an enemy or not."
They argue the Killstreak is a "death sentence" for the entire team, as it only takes one rogue ally to wipe out everyone as soon as they spawn.
MW3 Hardcore fans divided over whether EMP should be removed
The EMP's power in Hardcore has divided MW3 fans, with some saying they "love it" and others claiming it should be removed from the modes as soon as possible.
"Sledgehammer always putting broken s**t in their games," argued one user, with another countering that it "Sounds like a party, I'm gonna try it first thing tomorrow."
It's worth noting that EMP doesn't actually last very long, so the chaos only lasts for a limited amount of time. However, on maps like Shipment and Meat, it only takes a matter of seconds for an entire team to start killing each other.
If you're a Hardcore fan, this could be a useful strategy to adopt, or at least give you some laughs on your camo grind.
