Unintended mechanics have been discovered in every Call of Duty title that's released, with top-tier players utilising them to gain an advantage over their foes.

One of the most well-known tricks is reload cancelling, a mechanic that was possible in all recent CoD games until Warzone 2 & MW2. The technique allowed you to cancel your reload animation early, making it faster and meaning you could get your next shot off quicker than usual.

Despite being hit with heavy backlash, the devs decided to remove it in MW2 due to it being unrealistic. Well, an Modern Warfare 3 leak may have revealed some good news for members of the community who have missed reload cancelling.

MW3 rumour hints reload cancelling may return

Taking to Twitter on July 17, popular Call of Duty account ModernWarzone shared a rumour revealed by BobNetworkUK, claiming "reload cancelling is currently planned to come back with Modern Warfare III."

Of course, this is just a leak at this point and should be taken with a pinch of salt until it's officially confirmed. However, this would be incredibly exciting news for fans who miss this beloved technique that was possible in so many previous CoD games.

There's also an argument that removing these unintended mechanics has lowered the skill gap in the MW2 community, making it harder for top-tier players to separate themselves from the rest of the community.

Bringing back reload cancelling would certainly be a step in the right direction for those elite snipers, but there's also the counterargument that reload cancelling isn't realistic and doesn't look natural in-game.

Will slide-cancelling return in MW3?

Movement MW2

This news naturally led to questions about slide cancelling, another unintended mechanic that was immensely popular in WZ1 & MW2019 before being removed. We've already heard calls for slide cancelling to make its way back into the franchise, but like reload cancelling, there are arguments against it.

As of yet, there's no indication that Activision has any plans to bring slide cancelling back in MW3, but then again, the publisher and developer Infinity Ward haven't really said much about Modern Warfare 3. We'll just have to wait and see what's hiding up MW3's sleeve.
