CoD Points have become a currency that continues to fleece us over and over again, as Activision's obsession with cool skins and battle passes is becoming dangerous for our wallets.
The microtransactions in Call of Duty are often divisive, with many fans lapping up crossover content like Nicki Minaj skins or The Boys Operators, while others often berate the prices and gatekeeping of fun content.
Yet one fan has found themselves in a spot of bother with Activision, as they have entered "CoD Points debt", and fellow players have found it hilarious.
Call of Duty player finds themselves in 'CoD Points debt'
Fresh to the game, one player named "Freet-Treet" has found themselves in debt to the developers after they logged on to Modern Warfare 3 (presumably a Christmas present given their Level 7 status), and appeared to have -2,050 CoD Points in their account.
"Why am I in debt with cod points?" the player quizzed in a Reddit post.
Some fans were more helpful than others in answering the confused OP. A number of Redditors explained that this often happens as a banking error or due to refunds.
If players have refunded a transaction, Activision usually takes away any gained CoD points from the account, which could result in a negative balance. This can also occur with chargebacks.
"[This] happened to me in MW19 when I apparently didn’t approve the purchase in my bank app and they ended up taking the money back and resulted in -5000cp," one person said.
Other fans were less helpful...
Indebted CoD player mocked by fellow players
In typical Reddit fashion, many commenters mocked the player for being "broke", rather than helping out.
"I'm sure there's a good "you're so broke" joke to be had here," one fan said.
"CoD about to send you to collections," another joked. A third claimed that it wouldn't be the debt collectors on the way but rather a pop icon: "Nicki Minaj gonna knock on your door 'Pay up, motherf**ker'," they said.
It's not the first time gamers have been in microtransaction "debt" as a Fortnite player found themselves in a similar position with Epic Games' V-Bucks.
Maybe keep an eye on those charges, soldiers, nobody needs Steve Bohill knocking on your door for the next episode of Can't Pay Take It Away.
