MW3's Shipment obsession is rubbing the community up the wrong way

Call of Duty players are rightly asking why the developers are so obsessed with Shipment.

Shipment Five

Oh boy, Shipment. I, for one, hate the bloody thing, but I can see why the addiction for the Call of Duty community is there.

While many of us prefer the medium-sized three-lane maps that are perfect for Ranked and competitive play, Shipment offers that load-up-and-go brainless shooting. Only in Shipment can you be rewarded for running and gunning without giving strategy a second thought.

But the Call of Duty developers' obsession has taken a turn for the worse, and it's rubbing players the wrong way.

Shipment overdrive leaves Modern Warfare 3 players exasperated

In the Modern Warfare 3 Season 6 roadmap, Call of Duty confirmed that Shipment will be getting five new variants released into playlists, adding to the existing Shipmas festivities that already knocked out its base design.

Ghost Ship, Sunny Shipment, Arena Shipment, Bit-ment, and Stay High, are all arriving different variants of Shipment in Season 6. This offers different colour palettes and animation designs from 8-bit to the acid-trip neon jungle that started in Snoop Dog's 4/20 celebrations.

However, alongside complaints that MW3 is being left on life support and that map designers are running out of ideas as we head into Black Ops 6, so much Shipment has left 2023's CoD players rather disgruntled.

"Back in season 3 when we got six new 6v6 maps I didn't realize it would mean we'd get nothing but shipment reskins for the rest of the game's life cycle," one fan said on Reddit.

Another added, "FIVE SHIPMENT VARIANTS LMFAO. It's like they've been on this Reddit and saw all the complaining about small maps and said 'FIVE MORE SHIPMENTS FOR YOU!'"

Critics have previously been vocal about having too many small maps, and despite Sledgehammer Games claiming that it's are limiting this pool outside of the designated exclusive playlists, Shipment saturation might just renege that.

There might be a reason, though. Fans have called Treyarch out after reports emerged that Black Ops 6 is stealing MW3's final live-service maps, forcing Sledgehammer to re-design their current ones, much like it has been doing with Vortex and likeminded remasters. Maybe it's a good thing because those Shipment-shaped rose-tinted glasses might finally be cracking.
