Modern Warfare 3 Season 1 is upon and the update has brought a massive amount of fresh features to multiplayer.

Whether it's the Swarm Killstreak, Mastercraft & Ultra Skins, the Meat map, or the Riot Shield nerfs, players love the renewed chaos of MW3 multiplayer.

Well, at least most of the community is. The Xbox crowd are a little less happy due to the massive update size that was required to install Season 1. Waiting for hours on end, the ridiculous file size left console owners speechless when they logged on to start the download.

MW3 Season 1 update requires 244GB on Xbox to install

Massive update sizes are not a surprise to Call of Duty fans, who are used to regularly sacrificing half their console storage just to have Warzone and MW3 available.

However, the latest Season 1 update has taken this a little too far, requiring a staggering 244GB of space to download on current-gen Xbox consoles. What makes this more interesting is the fact that PC and PlayStation owners seemingly got a significantly smaller patch.

Why Xbox had to take such a blow in the storage department is a mystery, but the hours of waiting just to play have left countless players very angry.

MW3 fans slam ridiculous update size as a joke

As you would expect, finding out that a 244GB update is lined up on your console was not welcoming news to Xbox owners.

Taking to the ModernWarfareIII subreddit, they couldn't believe that Season 1's update size was over three times bigger than the whole of God of War Ragnarok.

"Every update I get on Xbox is at least 170 it’s so insane," said one user, with another arguing, "243.39 GB on XBOX, there goes 25% of my month's worth of my internet bandwidth/data allotment in one update, Cod ain't worth this s**t."

This feels like an issue as old as time in the CoD community, and while calls for changes continue, it seems unlikely that the file size problem will be addressed anytime soon.
