Ho ho horror is the name of the game in December 2023, as Activision has just unveiled an impressive roadmap for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 Season 1 and its integration to the battle royale bloodbath that is Warzone. We hope you've been nice this year because zombie Santa is here to devour all those on his naughty list.
Launching to some middling fanfare in November, MW3 quickly hit headlines for all the wrong reasons. With some declaring it as the "worst" Call of Duty ever, a lacklustre campaign was coupled with all the usual bugs, glitches, and SBMM grumbles. Thankfully, Season 1 is here to (hopefully) turn things around in time for Christmas.
Zombie Santa is coming to MW3
The sound of "Jingle Hells" is ringing in our ears, as Activision has confirmed Santa Gnaws for MW3 Season 1, with him also hopping on his sleigh over to Warzone. We'd heard about another event similar to the maligned Krampus that arrived with Vanguard, so let's hope Santa Gnaws can up the ante.
Although the roadmap was leaked slightly ahead of schedule, we now know what to expect from this nightmarish St. Nicholas. CODMAS: Santa's Slayground launches as a new playlist, although it won't be going live alongside the winter update on December 6.
The limited-time event launches mid-season and gives a dusting of snow on some holiday-themed versions of Shipmas and Hangover. As well as festive challenges, the beloved Infected is arriving mid-season. With the post warning us not to get bitten by Santa Gnaws - could these two be connected?
As for Warzone, players will have to work together to take down this zombified Santa Gnaws. He'll also ride the Urzikstan train, handing out gifts to those who've been good. Activision warns, "Those who choose to be naughty, on the other hand, will be met with heavy resistance."
What else is coming to MW3 Season 1
With a groaning Santa's sack of updates on the horizon, MW3 Season 1 will do nothing to dampen those complaints that the CoDverse is becoming the next Fortnite. There are Operators galore, including more crossovers with DUNE and The Boys, adding Timothée Chalamet and A-Train to the shop.
New 6v6 core maps include Meat and Greece, while Rio will be around just for Season 1. The classic Gunfight is making its welcome return, and the legendary Zombies Ray Gun will be coming to multiplayer alongside the new Vortex mode on Satan's Quarry.
Finally, we're sure you're excited to know there will be new Killstreaks and the long-awaited arrival of Ranked at some point in Season 1. It sounds like there are plenty of presents to unwrap in MW3 Season 1, but just make sure you leave out the cookies and milk for Santa Gnaws. You wouldn't want to make him angry.
