With Christmas just around the corner, Zombie Santa is stepping into his leather boots to deploy out of his sleigh and into Warzone.

In a bid to ramp up those last-minute Christmas purchases, Activision is celebrating the holiday season with a weekend of free festivities.

As of December 14, a free trial is being dished out for Modern Warfare 3, and there's an abundance of features to unpack.

Modern Warfare 3 opens free-to-play doors before Christmas

Free trials are quite common for Call of Duty games now, but shortly after the free-to-play Warzone map released with Modern Warfare 3 integration, players can now try out the multiplayer title free of charge, as Sledgehammer rolls out the first freebie of the MW3 era.

The free trial will start on December 14 and last until December 18, giving you four days to get your boots on the ground.

Within the Modern Warfare 3 free trial, players will have access to six of the most popular remastered maps, four core Mosh Pit game modes, and Ground War on the multiplayer side of things.

Oh, and Zombies!

Modern Warfare 3 Zombies included in free-to-play weekend

If you're still holding out scepticism on Modern Warfare 3's open-world DMZ-inspired Zombies experience, now is your chance to test it out.

The mode was met with some initial apprehension, having moved away from Round Based Zombies (for now, at least), but many long-time undead hunters have applauded Treyarch and Sledgehammer's newest limb-splintering mode.

Now is your chance to give it a good whirl, and in the wake of some Zombies games having catastrophic collapses in recent days, it could be the perfect time for Modern Warfare 3 to capitalise.
