We're back around to that time of year when the current Modern Warfare 2 title has begun to enter its twilight, players are looking back at Vanguard with rose-tinted glasses, and the optimists in life are bigging up whatever comes next.

Recent leaks have already begun revealing that Modern Warfare 3 will be the predecessor, with Sledgehammer Games taking full control of the multiplayer portion of the game, while Treyarch dips its severed toes into Outbreak.

So with Modern Warfare 3 in full swing, with skins already being made too, Call of Duty legend Matthew "Nadeshot" Haag has now revealed his promising thoughts about the future of the franchise.

Nadeshot 'optimistic' about Modern Warfare 3

As a stalwart of CoD, featuring as a professional in eight titles before moving on to owning the reigning world champions, Nadeshot has uncovered every nook and cranny of each game within the colossal series.

But following on from a somewhat underwhelming Modern Warfare 2 journey, Nadeshot is now optimistic that Sledgehammer Games will make the right moves.

"MW3 will be interesting to see what they do with Sledgehammer. They caught a lot of flack for what they did with World War 2, but AW was a good game," said Nadeshot in a recent podcast.

Of course, Sledgehammer also came under fire for their unfinished Vanguard release, but this later blossomed into a pretty middle-of-the-pack Call of Duty game.

Sledgehammer Games also work, mainly, on the Infinity Ward engine and are forced to play into the hands of Warzone too, meaning a complete overhaul of the mechanics is unlikely, and Nadeshot has now backed the developers to build on what already exists in Modern Warfare 2.

"I think Sledgehammer is probably the most comparable in my mind when it comes to gunplay and the feeling of the fluidity of what you get with Infinity Ward, and I don’t think Activision is going to let them take too far of a departure from what Infinity Ward has built with MW2 because the core gameplay is actually really fun," he added.

"As long as they continue to build off what they created with Ranked Play, I think it will bring some people back, and retention will be much better."

It might not be enough to see Nadeshot dust off his old scuff and sub in for the LA Thieves, but if someone as esteemed as himself is already backing Modern Warfare 3, it might be a good year of Call of Duty action after all.
