The pinnacle of Call of Duty esports is watching the best of the best on stage next to each other, battling out on intense Hardpoint and Search and Destroy matches, seeing who can rise to be the hero, and who crumbles in front of thousands of fans.

But to get to these events, players in the Call of Duty League need to undergo a series of online qualifiers, all of which carry little weight for those at the top of the tree.

Despite there being imminent changes to the scene coming next year, Matthew "Nadeshot" Haag has now taken aim at these "snoozefest" matches in a recent rant on stream, hopeful that they will soon be abolished.

Nadeshot labels CDL qualifiers as a 'snoozefest'

CDL Major 3 qualification matches are back underway, and Los Angeles Thieves recently took on Carolina Royal Ravens as they continue fighting to make the top eight (the World Championships qualification cut-off).

But Nadeshot is calling for these matches to be binned off in favour of "2k and 5k" tournaments of old, which all feed into Major seeding and qualification.

"I watched the match live but these online regular season matches, there's f**king storylines. I actually feel bad for the fans," Nadeshot said.

"We're doing a match or two a week for seeding points for the Major and I'm like 'argh, it's a snoozefest.' This match doesn't mean anything.

It's my own team and I don't want to watch LA Thieves and Carolina Royal Ravens play a Highrise Control that quite literally doesn't mean anything at all." He added, "These matches just need to matter."

Nadeshot calls for the return of 5k seeding tournaments for Call of Duty esports

League owners have been quite complimentary of the CDL changes that have come into play now, and while the business side of things may be improving, for those like Nadeshot and Hector "H3CZ" Rodriguez who love and cherish CoD, there are changes to be made to the format too.

"At least the 2ks and 5ks that we had back in the day were fun to watch because you knew every team was going as hard as possible as they wanted to win the f**king thing," Nadeshot continued.

Nadeshot's sentiment also echoed that of Seth "Scump" Abner, who also called on the League to implement 5ks and 2ks and scrap the online matches.

LA Thieves might need to take these League matches a bit more seriously if they do want to qualify for Champs, though, given that they are 10 points behind eighth, and every win accumulates an extra five points.
