Naughty Dog has teased a new game set in The Last of Us universe. During Summer Game Fest with Geoff Keighley, co-president of Naughty Dog, Neil Druckmann announced a new multiplayer experience in this award-winning universe - which will finally deliver upon the fan's request arguably in an even bigger way than hoped for.

While The Last of Us fans already celebrated past multiplayer iterations, the new game is promised to be a standalone title with a gigantic world that has been in development for the last two years.

Spearheaded by developers of Uncharted and Last of Us, development is moving swiftly, though not enough to reveal anything beyond a single teaser artwork picture. "This game is big" Druckmann shared, though it still shares a story presumably set in San Francisco.

When Does The Last Of Us Multiplayer Come Out?

Unfortunately, we didn't receive any further information other than that the new game is likely to release in 2023, so fans of The Last of Us universe will have to wait at least until then. Druckmann seemed apologetic for not being able to share more at this point, saying that "it's something special. We can't wait to show it off either."

Given that development only started two years ago, this is still a fairly swift turn around which might either speak to the ability of Naughty Dog to turn the quality product around or potentially to the type of game we might expect. Given that it's said to be huge, it's likely that the former is the case.

What's Going On With The Last Of Us TV Show?

During the same segment, Druckmann expressed gratitude towards the Naughty Dog fan base that allowed Naughty Dog to grow to a point at which it's capable of working on multiple projects at the same time. Moreover, the panel talked about Naughty Dog's collaboration with HBO Max in bringing The Last of Us onto TVs all around the world starting with A-listers like Pedro Pascal, Bella Ramsey, and Nick Offerman.

Druckmann shared that the TV show's drafts he received stayed authentic to the game. According to the co-president, the last day of filming was to conclude tomorrow, of course with further production being needed after. Druckmann also shared that he was even allowed to direct one of the episodes.
