A trailer for a potential new-gen Red Dead Redemption 2 has released, but with it possibly being a fake, fans are unconvinced that a mythical port is on the way.

Could Rockstar Games really be saddling up for a new-gen Red Dead Redemption 2? It's been nearly six years since Arthur Morgan stepped out for this critically acclaimed cowboy caper, but with RDR2 missing out on the PS5 and Xbox Series, there have been plenty of calls for a new-gen port.

Earlier this year, Rockstar delivered the first Red Dead Redemption 2 update in nearly two years, but fans were baffled why it didn't include the fabled 60fps upgrade we've all been asking for. The FTC court documents mentioned the mythical new-gen Red Dead Redemption 2, and yet, we're still waiting.

New-gen Red Dead Redemption 2 trailer 'leaks'

Sending shockwaves through the depths of Reddit, an apparent trailer for a new-gen Red Dead Redemption 2 is doing the rounds online. Serving as a cinematic sizzle reel, the trailer ends with a tease that the port will arrive on PS5 and Xbox Series in March 2025.

Although we'd love to get behind a new-gen RDR2, many aren't convinced by its legitimacy. In an era where AI is everywhere, it's a little too easy to fake something like this. Interestingly, it was apparently from a Reddit thread that didn't gain much traction, only going viral when it was shared on X.

The OP claimed to be someone working at Rockstar (that old chestnut), but if there's any truth to the rumours, they say it's been parked so as not to interfere with the marketing might of GTA 6. Much like our recent rumbles that Bully could be revisited, it's likely a case that Rockstar is putting all its efforts into GTA right now.

Players have noted that if this was the real deal, Rockstar and parent company Take-Two Interactive would've likely slapped a DMCA notice on the trailer by now. The fact that it's still up suggests this is just another Redditor looking for clout with fake news, although some think Rockstar is prepping for a major announcement.

Others were high on Copium, with one hopeful gamer writing, "Ok if this is fake someone had to make an orchestral remix of That's The Way It Is which would be a lot of work to be fake." Another joked, "It's fake 100% because good things can't happen to us," and someone concluded, "Bro, come on, man, can this please be real. I'm tired boss 🥺."

It's important to remember we still haven't got the long-mooted Red Dead Redemption PC port that would give the 2010 adventure a new lease of life, so we can't see a new-gen RDR2 coming before that. The likes of Digital Foundry have given us a tantalising tease of what a new-gen Red Dead Redemption 2 could look like on console, but for now, we're left out in the desert without a horse to take us back to town.
