The Modern Warfare series is rather confusing, and you can be forgiven for getting your wires crossed between the original series and the reboot.

Between revived/not-very-dead characters popping back up in this reboot, to characters who lost their lives in the old series, there's been a lot of death but not many dead characters, and the sides for which everyone is fighting are very, very blurred.

Now, after it has been revealed that the latest antagonist to die, is in fact alive, in Graves, a new Modern Warfare 3 trailer has sparked debate as the traitor and another baddie appear to be working for the good guys again... yep, my head hurts too.

Modern Warfare 3 trailer depicts Valeria and Graves working for Task Force 141

With Modern Warfare 3 bringing back Makarov as the most evil antagonist yet, pricing up a hefty bout with Captain Price, the fates of the MW2 pair of Graves and Valeria have been up in the air.

Eagle-eyed fans have now spotted both of these characters working FOR Task Force 141 though, as the new trailer pitted them on the same side as the good guys that we've come to love.

This would mean Valeria and Alejandro will have to bury that hatchet in MW3 - despite the recent Halloween trailer teasing that she will kill one of TF141's adored soldiers - while Graves will have had to dig himself out of a hole with each and every member that he and the Shadows hunted down throughout MW2.

MW3 fans torn by canon spoiler in new trailer

With the trailer showing Valeria and Graves on the good side, fans are now torn as to whether this makes sense in the canon or not, or whether the trailer doesn't actually mean anything for the actual game.

"Graves makes sense, Shadows are anti-Konni, Konni is anti-141, enemy of my enemy is my friend," said one fan on Reddit, also pointing out that Valeria is a drug mule and will likely want to fight against anyone cutting off her supply, maybe siding with Price and Co. as the lesser evil.

"Or it's just a trailer and means nothing," they added.

Another fan took a different stance in a popular comment though, saying, "That makes no sense."

"Valeria is a cartel warlord and going to war with the good guys. There’s a huge inconsistency here in narrative dissonance and it’s coming from the in-universe characters," they added.

Ultimately, Makarov could just be that big of a global threat an absolute menace to society that CoD needs to form this Suicide Squad of powerhouses to take him down. Or, it could just be a bit of an oopsie by the production team, after all, 21 Savage is on that team too...
