With a bunch of new FPS games all lined up for release in 2024, including the next instalment of the blockbuster franchise Call of Duty, the shooter genre is set for quite the bang.
Lined up we have the exhilarating XDefiant, another AAA title from former Black Ops legend David Vonderhaar, whatever the heck has been cooked over in Dr Disrespect's Midnight Studios, and a bunch more.
But how about toning the pace down a bit and getting really Ghost Recon about things? Well, that's what we appear to be getting with the new shooter Gray Zone Warfare, which combines the classic slow-paced tactile gameplay with typical CoD gunplay.
Gray Zone Warfare enters as a new tactical FPS rival
Coming later this year, Gray Zone Warfare is set to bring the tactical FPS world back to an immersive open-world setting, thriving on realism as your player and their squad look to take control of PvPvE areas and grow ever stronger to conquer a remote island.
"With almost all the civilian population evacuated by the United Nations, three PMCs are tasked by their enigmatic clients to explore the region, uncover its secrets, and bring back anything of value," the developers said on Steam.
Alongside having to gear up with the best snipers, optic sights, and full-auto weapons, players will also be required to have their own food supply, medical kits, and other survivalist components to stay fit and ready for the fight, with no rest for the wicked. Who knows when you're in the crosshairs of an enemy sniper?
Gray Zone Warfare appears to have shades of Ghost Recon, Tarkov, and Call of Duty
Literally occupying the grey zone, MADFINGER's title appears to be a quirky blend of some classic shooter franchises, taking inspiration from a range of titles.
Whether you're into stalking prey like a ghillie in the mist, getting all guns blazing like John Rambo, or enjoy building the best 16x Zoom low-recoil kit that even American Sniper would be proud of, the looter-styled modes appear to compliment all you gamers who prefer tactics over simply respawn-die-respawn.
For those CoD fans who especially liked modes such as DMZ, Gray Zone Warfare could be your renewed way back into the genre too, after the mode's unfortunate shortcomings.
"We are eager to listen to our community's feedback and align with your expectations and preferences[...] Let's make the ultimate tactical FPS experience together," the developers added.
The title will first be released in an Alpha test in "2024", although MADFINGER Games has claimed this stage could last years until a full release comes in down the line.
