NICKMERCS furious at ‘rat’ devs over Call of Duty skin debacle

NICKMERCS is less than impressed at the recent Ares Operator in Warzone which looks like his banned concept.

Activision | Kick: NICKMERCS

The Fortnite Icon-like series which Warzone opted to deploy didn't go down well at all, with popular Call of Duty players Tim "TimTheTatman" Betar and Nick "NICKMERCS" Kolchef's in-game operators having been removed from the shop after controversial comments made by Nick on Twitter.

Having been introduced to Warzone to celebrate some of CoD's most devoted players, the Operators were both removed from the store after just a week in action, and since then the concept of having in-real-life players added as characters has been left as a distant memory.

But a few months after this saga was seemingly closed, the door has been booted ajar once more, and NICKMERCS has called out "rats" in the Call of Duty developer teams for releasing a rather like-forlike Operator Bundle: Ares.

NICKMERCS calls Call of Duty devs 'rats' over new Ares bundle

Ares, the Greek God of War and Courage, is set to arrive in Warzone and Modern Warfare 3 as an Operator, dressed in quintessential Gladiator gear and a red mohawk, typical of his mythological depictions.

But it doesn't half look like the NICKMERCS skin, albeit with a golden-crested breastplate compared to Nick's black-donned armour. The Mowhawk is also startlingly similar.

After players took to social media saying that the Ares skin was "Nickmercs at home" (a play on the "We have pizza in the fridge" takeaway denial stance), the streamer evidently agreed that this was too close to his skin for comfort.

The streamer simply replied "buncha rats", showing that the ties between Nick and the series he grew up on are still completely severed.

Will we ever get a Warzone Icon Series skin bundle again?

With the failure of NICKMERCS' skin leading to a boycott of Call of Duty from his massive fan base, it looks like Activision has scrapped any notion of adding more in-real-life Call of Duty devotees into the game as characters.

Recently, Call of Duty esports legend Seth "Scump" Abner revealed that he was in talks over an Operator, and Kris "Swagg" Lamberson also claimed he was in for a skin, but both have been indefinitely put on hold.

Given the likeliness of the Ares bundle to NICKMERCS', it is also likely that we'll never see that relationship be mended and have his and Tim's characters reinstated.

Unfortunately for fans and that small selection of CoD legends, it looks like we're going to be sticking to these wackier options.

At least Zombie Santa is coming though...
