According to the Nintendo of America CEO, Nintendo and Microsoft have a great relationship and Nintendo considers them to be partners.
This comes soon after leaked emails from 2020, which were revealed as part of the Activision Blizzard acquisition, show that Microsoft wants to acquire Nintendo in the future.
Microsoft and Nintendo have a good relationship, says Bowser
In an interview with Inverse, Nintendo of America President Doug Bowser spoke about the relationship between the two companies.
Bowser said: “We have a great relationship with Microsoft. We consider them to be partners in many, many ways, and you only have to look at Nintendo Switch to see that partnership.
“Obviously, Minecraft is on Nintendo Switch, and we brought Banjo Kazooie to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. So, we’re looking forward to that partnership continuing.”
Leaked documents show Microsoft wants to acquire Nintendo
Legal documents leaked online in September laid out the details of Microsoft’s gaming strategy for the next few years.
The documents included an email from 2020 explaining CEO Phil Spencer’s desire to acquire Nintendo.
The email said: “At some point, getting Nintendo would be a career moment and, I honestly believe, a good move for both companies. It’s just taking a long time for Nintendo to see that their future exists off of their own hardware. A long time.”
Spencer released a statement last month which said that a lot had changed since the emails were written and sent.
The statement said: “We’ve seen the conversation around old emails and documents. It is hard to see our team’s work shared in this way because so much has changed and there’s so much to be excited about right now, and in the future. We will share the real plans when we are ready.”
