The Force is strong with this one, as Nintendo prepares to resurrect a fan-favourite Star Wars game like Emperor Palpatine himself. There are some great and not-so-great Star Wars titles out there, and while 2008's Star Wars: The Force Unleashed sits squarely in the middle, its upcoming Switch release is big news.
The galaxy far, far away, is expanding at an exponential rate, and adding to the never-ending list of upcoming releases, The Force Unleashed is a welcome surprise alongside big hitters like Fallen Order 2 and Eclipse. While we can't wait to revisit the story of Galen Marek, aka Starkiller, his arrival on the Switch comes with a major flaw.
Why Are Fans Annoyed At Star Wars: The Force Unleashed?
The first big Nintendo Direct of 2022 started the ball rolling for another action-packed year. As well as hyping the release of Kirby and the Forgotten Land with the adorable Carby, we got confirmation of Xenoblade Chronicles 3, and news of a Mario Kart 8 Deluxe DLC, still, others still loved hearing the swoosh of the lightsaber.
Remembering that The Force Unleashed launched on the PS3, Xbox 360, and Wii, there were questions about which version would be ported by Aspyr. Nintendo (unsurprisingly) confirmed it will be the Wii version - meaning you get to hack and slash your way through the Empire using motion controls. Not everyone was impressed though.
The problem is, the PlayStation and Xbox versions came with considerably more content, whereas the Wii release was something of a Force-lite release. Notably, the full release included two expansion DLCs that fleshed out Starkiller's story. These alternate history events took place on Tatooine and Hoth, with wild swings like Starkiller killing Obi-Wan Kenobi and embracing Luke Skywalker as his apprentice.
Will Aspyr Release The Full Version Of The Force Unleashed?
It makes sense that Nintendo is porting the Nintendo version of The Force Unleashed, but sadly, it doesn't sound like the DLCs will be coming with it. There have been grumbles across the board, with one angry padawan writing: "They're charging £20 for the Wii version of The Force Unleashed on Switch. Robbing b*stards."
Someone else raged: "Who the f**k asked for the ps2/wii port of Star Wars the Force Unleashed? Like it's not even that good of a game but I would have at least expected them to use the ps3/360 version." Sadly, this is the hand we've been dealt. Aspyr worked on the PC port of The Force Unleashed, so at least that's a positive. Even if some gamers prefer the Sony and Microsoft releases, we still can't wait to cut down Stormtroopers as Starkiller using our Joy-Cons.
