If there's one thing we need more of in this world, it's Jurassic Park video games. And no, we don't mean park-building simulators. Nothing against Jurassic World Evolution, but where's our Jurassic Park survival horror where we're hunted by raptors à la Alien: Isolation?
There has been a tonne of Jurassic Park games since Steven Spielberg's first movie came out in 1993, and while we might never revisit the highs of going to the arcade and sitting in the back of a Ford Explorer for SEGA's 1994 rail shooter, it's an underappreciated IP.
Open-world Jurassic Park game looks amazing
While the Jurassic franchise has had a resurgence at the box office thanks to the Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard-led trilogy, we're yet to see the games capitalise on this. We've seen the likes of the beloved Lego Jurassic World, but let's be honest, we're yet to see a truly AAA Jurassic game.
Over on YouTube, concept creator TeaserPlay has come up with an open-world Jurassic Park game in unreal Engine 5. We've previously seen TeaserPlay create trailers for everything from a God of War remake to a Black Panther game, and even another dinosaur outing with a mythical Dino Crisis remake.
The trailer features a first-person perspective, with an unknown character dumped in the middle of this dino-populated jungle. As well as battling supersized creepy crawlies and a nasty-looking croc, there's the staple face-off with a T-Rex. It's true that this could be any generic dinosaur game, but imagine the potential of slapping the Jurassic name on it.
In the description, TeaserPlay reminds us that while we've had plenty of smaller games based in the Jurassic IP, we're yet to break into the realms of open-world. We've seen huge success with this in everything from God of War to Star Wars, and to be honest, we think an open-world Jurassic Park is long overdue.
Give us more Jurassic Park
Sadly, the Jurassic name is in danger of going extinct. Universal's sequel trilogy limped toward its finale with the underwhelming Jurassic World Dominion. Still, it made over $1 billion at the box office and has sparked talks about where the series could go next.
In terms of video games, an obvious one would be a LEGO Jurassic Park sequel to encompass the newer movies like LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga. Speaking of which, the recent reveal of Star Wars Outlaws is trying something new with that IP and could spark interest in something with Jurassic.
If Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora is coming out, what's to stop Jurassic from taking a bit out of the competition? We think it's a dino-mite idea, but for now, it's back to keeping our Styxosaurus happy in Jurassic World Evolution 2.
