OpTic mocked for worst run in Call of Duty history

OpTic Texas set the unwanted record of being the first team to win an event and finish dead last directly after.

Six weeks ago, OpTic Texas was crowned as the best Call of Duty team in the world as they clasped the CDL Major III trophy above their heads.

But in what can only be described as the biggest capitulation that we've ever seen, OpTic's championship defence has seen them plummet to the worst-ranked team in the league. The mockery has now begun, as the Major III champions go into Major IV rock bottom.

OpTic Texas capitulates ahead of Major IV

In the Major IV qualifiers, OpTic Texas broke the unwanted record for the worst title defence in CDL history, having ended the online split with a disastrous 1-6 win/loss record, with four of the six losses coming to the worst-ranked teams in the league.

Losses to Boston Breach, Minnesota ROKKR, Las Vegas Legion, and Carolina Royal Ravens have rubbed salt in the wounds of OpTic, whose only victory came in the first round against Miami Heretics. The six-game loss streak is also OpTic's worst run in a decade, spanning back to 2014.

OpTic mockery erupts amid Major IV fall-off

While many fans are highlighting the ten-game loss streak on Search and Destroy as their main downfall - after all, the saying is "SnD wins championships" - others are pointing out that even their best respawn maps, like Sub Base, are no longer good.

"It's not just the search, they are terrible in every mode. Even the maps they win are sketchy," said one fan on Reddit. Another added, "Not even exaggerating saying I've never seen anything like this. From top 3 winning an event to worst in the league within 3.5 weeks."

Number one villain Patrick "Aches" Price also used this opportunity to back-handedly praise himself and his OpTic-killing nature, taking to Twitter to say, "OpTic fans - I know you’re stressed right now but I have some good news for you…

"This isn’t the first time a team fell off and went winless in SnD during June right before COD Champs. Now I’m not saying they can do it, but take solace in the fact it has been done…" Of course, that team was his own.

With back-to-back pivotal events now, as Major IV and Worlds looms, OpTic couldn't have chosen a worse time to throw their form off a cliff, and the trusted Green Wall's hope with it.
