Given Activision Blizzard's quite complicated relationship with hackers and cheaters in recent years, Overwatch 2 appears to be combatting the elusive rule-benders quite exceptionally.
Call of Duty has been riddled with wall-hacks and aimbot abusers ever since the battle royale came to light and PC players became more dominant.
However, Blizzard has stayed well away from Ricochet and the drama that comes with it. Instead, the team has worked hard on its own anti-cheat methods, and it seems that they've hit the jackpot.
Blizzard Entertainment bans over 5,000 cheaters per week
Blizzard has recently updated fans on how its Defence Matrix - the anti-cheat programme - has continued to fight against those pesky hackers, especially with those using wallhacks and aimbots to get a competitive edge.
"We recently issued a significant ban wave targeting popular and widely used hacks. We've also taken steps to directly confront unauthorized hacks and prevent them from ever being used in Overwatch 2," said Blizzard in a blog post.
The developers continued to say that they are often banning over 5,000 accounts every single week, as many cheaters look to infiltrate the game, with some even being repeat offenders using the same software.
Over 100,000 hackers have been banned in Overwatch 2
"Since the launch of Overwatch 2, we've penalized over 100,000 accounts worldwide that were found to be using a variety of cheats, including 'aimbots' and 'wallhacks' - in most cases, these accounts have been permanently banned," the blog post continued.
The Defence Matrix doesn't just combat against the thousands of cheaters, as it also takes head-on action against boosters and smurfs, allowing for a fairer and more competitive game overall.
Despite these extensive efforts, Overwatch 2 devs have conceded that some cheaters often slip through the net, and have made a plea to fans to continue reporting players that appear to be using banned third-party software or are using surfing/boosting techniques to grind through the competitive ladder.
