While the Pokemon-inspired (but legally distinct) Palworld launched to much fanfare in January 2024, it feels like a distant memory as players inevitably move on to the next big thing. Giving us the idea of 'Pokemon with guns' turned out to be a novel one, but with a lack of a clear roadmap, players have been jumping ship.
Although Palworld still has a loyal fanbase that enjoys this more adult take on catching adorable creatures and making them fight for your enjoyment, one of its current setbacks is a lack of availability. PC and Xbox players have been making the most of Palworld's lush vistas since January, but where's our PlayStation release?
Palworld's PS5 release could finally be coming
Palworld is still in early access, and despite June's major Sakurajima update adding a new biome and 24 new Pals, it's missing out on a massive chunk of gamers by skipping a PS5 port. We've heard plenty about Palworld coming to PlayStation, and although the rumours are yet to bear fruit, that could all be about to change.
According to Gematsu, the upcoming Tokyo Game Show is teasing a Palworld PS5 port as one of its big announcements. Even though it's important to note that the list isn't definitive, the months of speculation could soon be put to an end. With TGS being one of the year's last big gaming showcases and Pocketpair's Japanese roots, it makes perfect sense.
The news comes after Pocketpair Studio Lead Takuro Mizobe told Game File in June that the devs were "still discussing" other platforms. Mizobe suggested that while the Nintendo Switch wouldn't be able to support Palworld, PlayStation could be the next port of call. Pocketpair's Community Manager also hinted at a PlayStation release.
Despite Palworld breaking records on Steam and beating Counter-Strike for the most concurrent players ever, it's since struggled to hold onto first place. A look on SteamDB, shows Palworld has a 24-hour player peak of a respectable 25,365, but it's a far cry from its all-time high of 2,101,867.
There should be cause for celebration as we approach Palworld's one-year anniversary, but hopefully, PlayStation owners won't have to wait until January to explore this weird and wonderful world of harvesting organs from poor little creatures. With a potential TGS announcement suggesting a Palworld PS5 port could be just around the corner, we'll be tuning in on September 26-29.
