What is it with Duke Nukem games simply refusing to come out? Though we did finally get Duke Nukem Forever, most wish we hadn't.

Forever was held by many as a biblical mess that exemplified just how dangerous production hell can be for even the most anticipated shooters. It's not just this game that almost never came out.

There are swathes of Duke titles that have grown so close to release and been shot away at the very last minute. That's until the games leak over a decade later. And that's exactly what happened to Duke Nukem 3D's remake.

How Can You Play Duke Nukem 3D: Reloaded?

After years of the game never seeing the light of day, it looks like Duke Nukem 3D: Reloaded has finally seen its release. It's an illegal release, but frankly, we'll take what we can get.

The website anonfiles has revealed a build of the scrapped remake of Duke Nukem 3D that was initially supposed to release 11 years ago.

Unfortunately, the negative response to Duke Nukem Forever practically ended the franchise, which hasn't been readdressed since.

The project was scrapped, leaving developers pretty rudderless. Though it certainly isn't ideal, at least the developer's hard work is now finally available for players to take for a spin.

What Happened To Duke Nukem 3D: Reloaded Team?

The title's hard-working developers were left out in the cold with their game never officially released - but thanks to investigative work by PC Gamer, we know what they're up to.

In a blog post, Project Lead Frederik Schreiber said the remake was "getting too much attention from the press and the fans." He added, "We were required to pull all media related to Reloaded, from our website and Facebook. We were also told, not to talk about it anymore."

Many of the Interceptor Entertainment team moved forward with a new name, becoming Slipgate Ironworks. If that name sounds familiar, it's because they helped to co-develop Ghostrunner, the super-speedy assassination game that banged on PS Plus not too long ago.

So, even though it isn't entirely legitimate, at least Duke Nukem 3D: Reloaded is out and about somehow. Sadly, it's probably the last we'll see of Duke for a while too.
