God, do you remember PlayStation All-Stars: Battle Royale? Sony's crack at the Smash Bros.-alike was certainly formidable in concept, hoping to bring together the great mascots of PlayStation's past together in a vicious tournament for ultimate supremacy.
The idea of watching Kratos beat the oil out of a Big Daddy, or watch Sackboy clamber onto the back of Sly Cooper, is fantastic - but the execution simply wasn't there.
Even despite its spirit, the 2012 game was pretty poor, so it was sad to see such squandered potential. But, it looks like we could be getting another crack at it.
PlayStation All-Stars Could Be Coming For PS5
It looks like the potential for PlayStation All-Stars is still untapped, as the brutal brawler is tipped for something of a revival for the PS5.
Despite the game's team being shut down, one leaker has suggested that Sony is interested in a sequel of sorts. This revamped fighting game would presumably bring together even more PlayStation mascots, both new and old.
"PlayStation Studios is interested in a sequel to PlayStation All-Stars: Battle Royale thanks to their acquisition of EVO," says leaker Rhythian. "Characters like Crash, Aloy, Deacon, Ellie, Joel, Spyro, and more are planned for the sequel alongside all characters from All-Stars."
It's an interesting implication, especially as there are plenty of new mascots to be added to the series to sell the new game. However, the failure of the first game means it could be a big risk.
PlayStation All-Stars Was Meant To Be Revived On The PS4
The leaker carries on to claim that the game was expected to make a return during the last console generation, but its production was stunted by the poor performance of the first one.
It's undoubtedly an exciting implication, as there's plenty of fun to be had with the idea, but with the first game being a bit pants, there's still a chance that the sequel could follow suit. Any game with Joel and Ellie in it gets points from us, but still.
Teasing that there's more to the story, you might remember the recent release of God of War Ragnarok included an All-Stars Easter egg - proving it's still in someone's mind at Sony. Would you want to see the Ghost of Sparta beat the living snot out of Abby from The Last of Us? Yeah, us too!
