With Black Ops 6 around the corner, fans are eager to see what Treyarch will do with multiplayer to set it apart from previous Call of Duty games - movement aside.
They've already noticed that some maps will have Scooby-Doo-inspired hidden doors to mix up the meta in your usual 6v6 playlists, and others have found evidence that some maps can hold up to 8v8 lobbies.
But what about larger game modes? Ground War? Invasion? Fireteam? Well, the latter might be on the way back from its post-Cold War exodus.
Black Ops 6 fans spot 'evidence' of a Fireteam mode
One avid Call of Duty fan has now taken to Reddit to claim that PlayStation has indirectly confirmed the mode, as Black Ops 6's store description states that it can host lobbies for up to 40 players (usually, CoD lobbies are 6v6, making 12-player games).
"Sony PS store lists the game as having up to 40-player multiplayer. Personally, I hope this is true," the OP says. There is some slightly bad news that could skew the hopes of the Redditor, as despite selecting the Black Ops 6 Cross-Gen bundle, the PlayStation store could be referencing the entire Call of Duty HQ app.
We know it already supports teams of 40 through Ground War and Invasion in Modern Warfare 3, despite these modes being left for dead.
Fireteam's fate might not be sealed until 2025
So far, Fireteam hasn't featured in any Black Ops 6 promotions (although no game modes have really been included aside from Zombies), and there might be a good reason as to why.
The Zombies mode Outbreak isn't coming to Black Ops 6, as Treyarch confirmed a full year of round-based content. According to leaks, it's due to land in a year's time for the 2025 game, reportedly made in the same ilk that MW2 and MW3 are but for Black Ops.
Given that it was played on Outbreak maps back in Cold War, you might see Fireteam come back properly. Still, there's a chance that it'll come in Black Ops 6 from the get-go as an alternative to Ground War.
