This is why we can't have nice things. The Pokemon Company has tried to bring its community together by introducing Pokemon Community Forums, bit it didn't take the genius of Mew to figure out it was quickly going to become a dumpster fire.
Since its introduction in 1996, Pokemon has prided itself on being a family-friendly franchise, with it being a gaming goliath no one could've predicted. Its squeaky-clean image goes hand in hand with the ethics of Nintendo, meaning the two have been making bank for the past 27 years.
Pokemon Community Forums are already a mess
The official Pokemon site has been hyping the Pokemon Community Forum initiative, with a gushing statement explaining, "You can stay up to date with the latest Pokémon news, discuss who your favorite Pokémon is, and even help the community at large by submitting bug reports for Pokémon TCG Live or Pokémon UNITE."
That all sounds well and good, but when it comes to discussing your favourite Pokemon, it didn't take long for things to get a little X-rated. We're getting flashbacks of the 'sexy' Sprigatito trend all over again. Over on Twitter, @UltimaShadowX showed off an array of topics on the Pokemon Community Forums, with some interesting subjects.
Others showed examples, with questions about the best Pokemon to explode, what would Tony Hawk's Pokemon choice be, and a topic title of, "Does anyone else wish that Hynx had succulent feet in the games?"
Even though we're not sure what The Pokemon Company expected from its 'horny on main' fandom of sometimes creepy fans, we could've seen this coming a mile off.
Fans react to the Pokemon Community Forum debacle
Most managed to find the funny side of it all, with one fan writing, "How long till someone leaks government documents like with other forum?" Another asked, "Don't they know how that Pokemon is one of the most lewded franchises?"
A third said, "Everyone needs to play the long game. behave, lure Nintendo into a false sense of security, and then unleash the Sonic fandom onto it. To be honest, we could have hours of fun wading through the comments and diving deep into the warped minds of Pokefans.
As someone on the Twitter thread pointed out, "The funniest thing is that every post and comment has to be approved. I would very much like to speak to the approval team." Yeah, we're a little concerned too.
However, it seems someone has had a word, because at the time of writing, there are just normal topics about the best game and whether the anime should have subtitles. While the moderators have seemingly stopped our fun in its tracks, we do still find ourselves asking, "Which Pokemon do you think would survive the Purge?"
