Popular Twitch streamer, Imane "Pokimane" Anys, was forced to call out a sexist sub live on stream after they made some disparaging remarks about another female streamer.

Recently in the gaming community, there has been a lot of talk regarding the issues raised following the Activision Blizzard lawsuit, in which accusations of sexism and harassment running rife in the company were highlighted. As a result, thousands of staff members signed a letter demanding changes were made, as well as a walk-out being staged earlier this week. The whole issue has been discussed widely by the entire community, shining a light on issues that women face every day.

One streamer raised their own issue, former professional Hearthstone player Rumay "Hafu" Wang. In the wake of the controversy, she revealed that in 2008, a World of Warcraft professional team took part in a competition using an inappropriate name that directly referenced her personally. According to Hafu, nothing was done by Blizzard to address the issue.

Why Did Pokimane Call Out Someone On Her Stream?

During her livestream, as Pokimane was discussing the problem that Hafu had referenced, a sub was banned. They then subbed to Pokimane, and said that they would "unsubscribe" if they weren't unbanned.

The streamer then decided to take a look at what the sub had been saying, and when she discovered that they had called Hafu "hot" when she was 17 (underage in America), as well as seemingly excusing the professional WoW team's name, Pokimane clapped back.

She said: "You are exactly the kind of person we don’t want in my community or in the greater gaming community at all. It is not just a joke to call someone who’s underage 'hot' and justify the fact that people are saying they were going to sexually assault them,

"Also, it’s not okay to, instead of apologising for your sh***y comments, to try to flip it and call me or my mods boring for ‘not getting the joke.’ You are so oblivious to your own problems, it’s painful."

Did The Sub Get Banned On Pokimane's Stream?

After Pokimane called the sub out live on stream, she then added: "You think I give a f**k about your $2 sub? You think that’s going to make me think that what you’re saying is ok? I hope you get banned off this whole platform, my guy."

So yes, the person in question did get banned, and if Pokimane gets her way - they'll also be banned from Twitch entirely. Which, when you take into account the comments that they made, wouldn't be a bad thing.
