Typically in Warzone 2, there's one weapon in each category that stands above the rest and takes the role of the default meta choice.
For SMGs, that's without a doubt the Lachmann Sub, which boasts an unbelievably high 15.5% overall pick rate.
While an extremely strong option, there are other SMGs that can compete with the Lachmann but are often overlooked by the playerbase.
Warzone 2 guru WhosImmortal has identified one of these close-range contenders, claiming the underrated SMG has a "beast" TTK and is easy to use as well.

A personal favourite of WhosImmortal, the VEL-46 is a "beast" SMG that can deliver devastating damage at close quarters.
One of the biggest strengths of the weapon is how easy it is to use, the "super low recoil" ensures you can land every shot on target. This means the gun has an incredibly powerful realistic TTK, as you can lock onto foes during intense gunfights.
Another reason to add the VEL-46 to your loadout list is the fact that the gun is competitive at mid-range, which is rare for an SMG.
Having the ability to kill targets from slightly further away adds even more versatility to this weapon, giving you the best chance of coming out on top in your matches.
How popular is the VEL-46 in Warzone 2?
While the VEL-46 definitely hasn't been forgotten by Warzone 2 players, it's severely underrated considering what it brings to the table.
Sitting at a rather low 2.9% according to WZRanked, it's positioned extremely far behind both the ISO 45 and Lachmann Sub in terms of popularity.
So, if control and versatility are what you look for in an SMG, then it's hard to go wrong with VEL-46 heading into Season 6.
