You'd better start saving now because the PlayStation 5 Pro is officially on the way. Rumours that we'd be getting a spruced-up version of the OG have been swirling for months, and even as some look ahead to the eventual PS6, the PS5 Pro is here to tide us over for a little longer.
With the original PS5 releasing in November 2020, a mid-generation refresh was already looking likely for 2024 - after all, how many shelled out for the PS4 Pro at the end of 2016? Now, Sony has lifted the lid and revealed how much bang you get for your buck with the PS5 Pro.
What is the PS5 Pro release date?
The surprise was spoiled ahead of time, but on September 10, Sony's PlayStation 5 Technical Presentation finally unveiled the PS5 Pro to the world. Coming hot off the heels of November 2023's PS5 Slim to replace the boxy original, the PS5 Pro is hitting shelves on November 7.
Boasting 45% faster rendering, advanced ray tracing, and AI-driven upscaling, these 'big three' will be added to existing and upcoming games. PlayStation Lead architect Mark Cerny highlighted the likes of Marvel's Spider-Man 2, Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, and Horizon Forbidden West.
As you can imagine, the PS5 Pro also has a pretty price tag to go with it - costing $699.99/£699.99. It comes in at much higher than the original PS5 launch price, but what did you expect? All in all, the PS5 Pro is set to become the gold standard of modern gaming.
We know that Microsoft isn't planning its own mid-gen revamp of the Xbox Series lineup, and with GTA 6 coming in 2025, we expect the PS5 Pro will sell like hotcakes. Just when you think the console wars have burned down to embers, Sony drags us back in and has us emptying our wallets.
