Rainbow Six Siege is approaching its tenth year anniversary, and Ubisoft has done a great job of keeping the tactical shooter fresh with new Operators, map reworks, and quality-of-life improvements.

Fans have been pretty pleased so far, but it appears one announcement made at the Manchester Major hasn't gone down as well as Ubisoft may have hoped.

Fans boo Ubisoft's Siege Membership reveal at Manchester Major

As you can hear in the video above, fans are less than impressed by the addition of an additional monetisation option, and while it is optional, many comments have called it the straw that has broken the camel's back.

Siege already has seasonal battle passes, cosmetics that can be purchased, and bundles in the store, but the community isn't shy about making its voice heard.

Over on Reddit, the scene was similar, with one user sarcastically saying "Good idea introducing a paid subscription to your dying game riddled with issues that the player base is openly against that have yet to remedy" before saying it'll "kill Siege even quicker".

Others bemoaned tying it to Operation New Blood, which appears to be a thinner season overall, eschewing a new Operator for what are essentially Attack and Defense versions of the Recruit.

What's in the Rainbow Six Siege Membership?

If you are interested in the new membership, you may be wondering what's included.

Players that sign up get the following, according to Ubisoft's blog post:

  • Instant Battle Pass access, 10 Battle levels, and 1 Bravo pack
  • New cosmetic drop containing 1 Legendary item and 1 Epic bundle on the 28th of each month (starting June 28)
  • 10 Battle levels and 1 Bravo pack each month on your renewal date

As you may expect, there's an "Early Adopter Bonus" if you join between June 11 - 18. You'll get an epic Ash bundle and 600 credits for your account.
