Despite being adored by players, the recently re-added Rebirth Island map could be facing the chopping block when Black Ops 6 releases later this year.

The popular Alcatraz Prison-centric map appears to be here for a good time and not a long time, as just six months after it was released back to Warzone, leakers claim it could be removed to make way for new blood.

Following the reveal of Area 99, leakers are now claiming that the Resurgence map pool will see Rebirth Island drop out.

Leakers claim Rebirth Island will be removed from Warzone

Popular leaker "HeyImAlaix" has taken to Twitter to claim that Rebirth Island is planned to be removed from Warzone as early as November to make way for Area 99.

The leaker claims Fortune's Keep will stay alongside Vondel and the Urzikstan cut-ups.

It's not sure whether this is a permanent move or rather just a short stint away to allow Area 99 to have time in the limelight. Given Rebirth's popularity, it wouldn't be a surprise if Treyarch wants its debut Warzone map to have 100% focus.

Previously, Warzone has axed maps that were low down the popularity pecking order, with Ashika Island being the least-loved map this year, condemning it to the archives.

But other battle royales and tactical FPS' rotate their map pool; VALORANT often takes out different maps for small reworks, only to be added back three months down the line, and Apex Legends has a different rotation method that sees maps get breathers to keep the content fresh.

What might be slightly worrying for Rebirth Island stans - or a positive depending on how you spin it - is that Area 99's first still image appears to be very similar to Rebirth, with a central cornucopia surrounding by less-dense POIs around the side of an island.

Should the leaks be true, Rebirth Island's removal could be permanent, or it could be just a small stint on the sidelines while Treyarch's new babe gets teethed - it's hard to think of a better lineup of Resurgence maps than Area 99, Rebirth Island, and Vondel.

Even still, it shouldn't bee too much longer before Verdansk returns anyway.
