Red Dead Redemption 2 is an absolute titan of an open-world game, and its best bits come in the form of the nonsense you can get up to in its huge, sprawling, play area.

Of course, you can drag NPCs off the back of a train and trample helpless wildlife in Red Dead Online, but with that game being as dead as it is, you might as well experience the game as Arthur Morgan - especially as he's got plenty of adventures waiting for you.

But now, you can have the best of both worlds and take on Arthur's life story with a mate by your side. The Red Dead Redemption 2 Companion System mod is adding some serious aww factor to the 2018 game.

Red Dead Redemption 2 Companion mod gives you a bestie for life

The sweetest mod to ever hit the Wild West has been discovered, as thanks to developer bolmin70, you can have a partner for life.

The new Companion System mod allows players to have one of many NPC characters in Red Dead Redemption 2 serve as a companion to you as Arthur. They'll follow along by your side and help you out in missions and your other adventures.

The mod allows you to pick from Javier, John, Bill, Hosea, Kieran, Sean, Charles, Lenny, Micah, Uncle, and Sadie to be your pal. You can order them around to stay close to you, wait in a certain area, chill out for a minute, or you can simply send them back to camp instead.

It's a very sweet mod that helps to bolster the brotherhood of the Van Der Line gang, as well as welcome a buddy for you to go fishing with.

Red Dead Online is coming back

Thankfully, it looks like your relationship with actual people in the Ol' West isn't too fractured just yet, as new free-roam missions and events have been revealed to be coming to Red Dead Online, along with double rewards.

There's clearly no better time to jump into the game, nor is there a better time to jump into the newly-announced RDR Switch port. Hell, it's just a good time to be a cowboy.
