The Wild West can sometimes be a scary place, with Rockstar Games' Red Dead Redemption 2 having more horror elements than you might think. Alongside the zombie-esque Night Folk, we've got the runaway ghost train and the ever-creepy Strange Man.
Considering the crux of Red Dead Redemption 2 is supposed to be Arthur Morgan's morally complex arc, the writers managed to squeeze in plenty of haunting side quests. Five years after Red Dead Redemption 2 was released, players have come across a mystery NPC who is terrifying them.

Over on Reddit, u/ghost_toe claims to have seen the same far-off NPC several times. They apparently stand in the distance, and when you peek at them using your binoculars, they stare back, wave, and then ride off. There are some unnerving unsolved mysteries in the game, but we'll admit this one is pretty creepy.
Other players quickly came up with their own theories on what his backstory is and why he's staring at Arthur. One theorised, "That's you from the future," which a pretty wild theory that we love - it would explain why he's always in the distance and we never get to actually meet this mystery horseman.
Another guessed, "I'm very surprised no one has pointed this out but that person looks like Micah. The horse looks like Baylock." Someone else concluded, "Welp this is kinda scary idk why," and another suggested shooting him with a long-range to see what happens.
In the end, though, it's probably the OP that's the problem. As one concluded, "This guy was just enjoying the view; then he noticed you looking at him with binocs, awkwardly waved, and left because he was weirded out." We know there are some mysteries still buried out there, so over to Rockstar to clear this up.
Are we getting a Red Dead Redemption remaster?
The big news from the Red Deadverse rumour mill is that we're getting a remaster of 2010's Red Dead Redemption. A Korean rating site seemingly spoiled the surprise ahead of time, but since, we've been gearing up for a surprise drop of a new-gen Red Dead Redemption.
Apparently, this will be more like a full remake akin to The Last of Us Part I or Resident Evil 4 instead of the lacklustre GTA Trilogy. Although we previously heard about a Red Dead Redemption remaster, it was reportedly canned after the failures of the GTA Trilogy.
Rockstar has also teased a potential Red Dead Redemption 3, but as the team is presumably neck-deep in developing GTA 6, we imagine it'll be many moons away. Still, if we do get a third game, we could finally solve the mystery of the waving NPC.
