Though they never really went away, it seems that the public consciousness is warming to the representation of video games on the big and small screen as movies and TV shows. But where is our Red Dead Redemption series?
The Super Mario Bros. Movie is a box office smash hit, while The Last of Us proved that even video games can be offered the expected HBO prestige and make for some absolutely banging telly. As a result, fans are wondering exactly what could be next.
After the reveal that God of War and Gears of War will soon be getting the live-action treatment, Red Dead Redemption tops that list every time. Luckily, it kind of already exists.
The fan-made Red Dead Redemption TV series is incredible
As fans demand a Hollywood-grade live-action version of Red Dead Redemption and its critically acclaimed sequel, they've glossed over that there's actually a pre-existing RDR series that not enough fans have had the privilege of seeing.
As first pointed out by GamingBible, there's a fan-made series simply called The Red Dead Redemption Show, that builds its own narratives based on the characters that already exist in Red Dead Redemption 2.
The show uses the models and locations of the games to tell new stories, with new voice actors and new revelations. The project is sadly not particularly popular yet, with the show's channel sitting at just under 5,000 subscribers. Still, we're hoping that the impressive feat will draw more fans in.
The most recent episode clocks in at an hour long, so there's plenty for you to sink your teeth into, especially if you want to jump into the series from the beginning.
RDR doesn't have an editor
The feat of this series is pretty amazing, but even more when you consider that unlike GTA V, Red Dead Redemption 2 doesn't have any kind of in-game editor. This means that the series has been built using a third-party editor, making the most of existing camera angles.
It's a hell of an impressive thing to put together, especially for two whole seasons of TV-show-length episodes. The Red Dead Redemption Show 2 is a real passion project and more than deserves your attention. At least it'll definitely tide you over until the eventual live-action show gets the green light.
