Rockstar Games' Red Dead Redemption 2 might not have won everyone over with its simulation-forward approach to world-building and storytelling, but it's hard to argue that the cowboy caper doesn't stand as one of gaming's crowning achievements.
In terms of visuals, immersion, and compelling narratives, Arthur Morgan's story stands as one of the best things that Rockstar Games has ever been a part of, and its launch was one of the most exciting times in gaming history.
The Red Dead Redemption 2 finale has reduced the hardiest of players to blubbering messes, and upon reflection, it's hard to blame Rockstar for doing all they could to service the story of the game. Now, it looks like the RDR2's protagonist is coming back for another rodeo. A tangentially related rodeo, but a rodeo all the same.
Arthur Morgan is back for a new Red Dead project
Arthur Morgan voice actor Roger Clark is returning to the Wild West. Clark is making his return to history as he narrates a brand-new audiobook that takes us through American history through the lens of the Red Dead franchise.
Red Dead's History is written by historian Tore Olsson and covers the American West from 1870 to 1920. It's the period in which both Red Dead Redemption and its sequel take place. Looking like a must-read for RDR fans, the book offers historical insight by using the narratives, places, and people featured in the games.
It's a great idea, frankly - whatever it takes gamers to read a book every once in a while is one hell of a feat, and given that many are already interested in the period as a result of the games, this is a recipe for success.
When is Red Dead’s History coming out?
If you want to know more about the world Arthur Morgan and John Marston made their home in, you can pick up the hardback book or audiobook narrated by Roger Clark on June 8, 2024, via Macmillan.
With the Red Deadverse being pretty quiet without any news about a mythical Red Dead Redemption 3, it's a fantastic concept that's been sold all the better now that Clark is involved to give it a little more authenticity for fans. As long as Arthur Morgan's silky tones are there, we'll show up. Even if it devastates us.
